VMU Athletes to Compete in SELL Games

One of the biggest student sports events in the Baltic States, the 39th SELL Student Games, starts this week, from May 16-19. Over 1,300 participants from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Italy, Slovakia, and Romania are expected in Kaunas this weekend, representing 36 universities. The games will take place at the sports facilities of Lithuanian Sport University, Kaunas University of Technology, Vytautas Magnus University, Žalgiris Arena swimming pool, Birštonas Sports Centre stadium, and Boulder House climbing centre.

At the end of each semester, all students of bachelor, master, integrated and professional studies as well as free movers are invited to share their opinion about teachers’ and their own work during the study courses. The Spring semester survey has started at University, and it will be open until the 11th of June.

After a five-year break, the 39th SELL Student Sports Games will take place in Kaunas on 16-19 May. This marks the first time the games will be held in the premises of the Sports Centre of Vytautas Magnus University (VMU). The three-day Student Games will feature 14 different sports: indoor and beach volleyball, basketball, 3×3 basketball, mini football (7×7), badminton, table tennis, powerlifting, athletics, swimming, judo, orienteering, sport climbing, and chess.

The links between fashion magazines and literature, women’s education in the USA and Latin America, domesticity and mythology in eighteenth-century Mexican (then New Spain) paintings, and the myth of Arachne in the work of Gabriel García Márquez are just some of the topics that Evelina Gužauskytė, a PhD in Spanish (Colonial Latin American Literature), teacher of Latin American literature and culture, translator, and Associate Professor at Wellesley College in Boston, will discuss at Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) from May 7 to 14.
