From 18 to 23 June, Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) hosted festive diploma award ceremonies. University community is welcome to explore the photo galleries of the events.

Congratulating the graduates on completing a significant stage of life, VMU Rector Prof. Juozas Augutis expressed his belief that the openness, creativity, critical thinking, and commitment to lifelong learning cultivated during their studies would remain as guiding lights for future growth.

“This is the mission of our university, as one rooted in the artes liberales (liberal arts) tradition – not only to impart knowledge but also to provide a strong foundation of values that will help in even the most challenging situations. Do not fear doubts, mistakes, or uncharted paths – if you remain true to yourselves and your values, you will ultimately find the best path. Today, you step into the world with great responsibility, but you are ready for it – and you are not alone. You are joining a vast, friendly community of our university’s alumni who continue to impress and inspire with their achievements around the world”, said the VMU Rector.

During the ceremonies held at VMU, diplomas were awarded to graduates from the faculties of Arts, Catholic Theology, Economics and Management, Humanities, Informatics, Law,  Natural Sciences, Political Science and Diplomacy, and Social Sciences, and the academies of Agriculture, Education, and Music. Certificates were also presented to those who completed teacher retraining modules at VMU Education Academy.

Traditionally, university and partner-established scholarships were also awarded to VMU students during the events.

At the Faculty of Informatics graduation ceremony, students were recognized and awarded 300-euro Alumni Scholarships for outstanding BA theses. This year, the scholarships went to Rokas Grigas, a graduate of the Informatics Systems program, and Aleksandra Verbickaja, a graduate of the Multimedia and Internet Technologies program.

At the celebration for graduates of the Faculty of Arts, three university students were awarded the Saliamonas Banaitis Scholarships: Povilas Mikalauskas, a doctoral student at the Faculty of Humanities, and MA students Andrėja Stulginskienė and Karina Piečaitytė from the Faculty of Arts. These annual scholarships support and encourage outstanding students conducting research related to the individuals, organizations, events, or processes of the First Republic of Lithuania (1918–1940), especially those linked to the signatory Saliamonas Banaitis. The scholarship was established at VMU in 2016 by his grandchildren living in Canada, in honour of the then-upcoming Centennial of the Restored State of Lithuania.

During the Faculty of Political Science and Diplomacy graduation ceremony, scholarships initiated by the Lithuanian Foundation were presented. The Zenonas Rekašius Memorial Scholarship – honouring the memory of a renowned Lithuanian-American journalist and founder/editor of the liberal monthly Akiračiai – was awarded to Dainius Dinda, a graduate of the Future Media and Journalism program, for his academic excellence and thesis titled “State Oppression and Digital Resistance: A Case Study on Government Repression of the Media and the Use of the Telegram Platform in Belarus After 2020.”

In addition, seven students from the same faculty were awarded the Alina and Ignas Skrupskelis Memorial Fund Scholarship for the best theses in journalism or communication. The recipients this year were Public Communication program students Gabrielė Čepkauskaitė, Eglė Gailušytė, Paulius Kisielius, Barbora Krinicin, Gytė Kuzavinytė, Simona Nedzinskaitė, and Miglė Kurelaitė. The scholarship commemorates Ignas Skrupskelis – a talented journalist, editor, and Germanist – and his wife Alina Petrauskaitė-Skrupskelienė, a distinguished educator and promoter of Lithuanian culture in the diaspora.
