Students Participated in a Transform4Europe Animation Course

On 11–17 August, Transform4Europe invited students from the intiative’s universities to attend a free text animation course online organized by the Estonian Academy of Arts.
During the course, students learned to present their ideas with the power of animation, take their future presentations to the next level with Blender and help to advance positive changes for higher education. With a focus on typography, the students learned the essential tools that make 3D objects move. Multiple workshops offered practical exercises to gain knowledge about versatile animation principles and techniques to create outstanding presentations with animated texts. Through the use of learned tools and gained skills, students worked on the vision of a future university campus and created animated video presentations by working as a group.
„During the course, I became acquainted with the Blender software and its main functions, creation of an animation sequence, modelling and animation of text, and the primary principle of scene creation. The acquired knowledge will help not only at the university and in other scholarly work but also in real life”, one of the course’s participants, VMU student Austėja Amankavičiūtė, noted.
Another participant, VMU student Inesa Sadlauskaitė, agreed that the course was very beneficial. “The course was taught by well-prepared specialists who were ready to help and answer questions. In a few days, we learned to create a simple scene with moving letters that change location, colour, appearance etc. The course has expanded the list of tools that I will be able to adapt for communication campaigns”, Sadlauskaitė said.
According to the students, the animations that they have learned have raised their competences in technologies, encouraged their engagement and further interest in the software, and stimulated creativity. “Perhaps I will use this knowledge in the future, because my study programme (creative industries) is related to creative work. It was a great opportunity to gain experience while creating an animated film about VMU”, the university’s student Milda Lileikaitė explained.
The course was created by Estonian Academy of Arts‘ (EKA) Summer Academy together with the Department of Animation. Students were assisted by two instructors: Hieb Kuftseryn and Elise Eimre. The animation course was the first project presented by Transform4Europe.
Students from Transform4Europe alliance universities could apply to participate in the online course. The member universities are: Saarland University, University of Alicante, Estonian Academy of Arts, University of Silesia in Katowice, Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, University of Trieste, and Vytautas Magnus University.
All participants will be invited to a Transform4Europe event at one of the partner universities in 2022; travel costs will be covered by Transform4Europe.
