    Pedagogika / Pedagogy, 2005, vol. 80, p. 9-14

Ineffective consumption in contemporary society raises a number of problems associated with public health and personal safety, human and environmental ecology, while insufficient economical education, ignorance of consumer responsibilities and rights among population is the common present phenomenon. Consequently, consumer education is one of the underlying areas; it is also mentioned as part of consumer policy in the EU Constitution. There is limit knowledge on teacher’s awareness in the field of consumer culture. The present study sought to reveal the attitudes of present and future Lithuanian teachers concerning integration of consumer education topics into the curricula of several compulsory subjects at secondary school. 'I he study population consisted of 996 persons, 281 males and 71 5 females. Among respondents there were 472 secondary school teachers of different specialities (chemistry, biology, geography, technologies, physical culture) and 524 students of I-IV courses of the same specialties, future teachers. Anonymous questionnaire was used. Study results showed that present and future teachers are favourable to integration of consumer’s culture subjects into the comprehensive school curriculum; however they lack knowledge in this field. Both teachers and students accentuated consumer fields related to material values (as the articles of food, their assortment) more than those associated with sustainable development (ecology, recourses, life quality). Attitudes of the respondents were strongly associated with their age and sex, the subject that teachers have at school or study speciality for students. Teachers who have ever attended some consumer culture qualification course valued significance of consumer education at school more positively than others. Most respondents pointed out that at school children have to be intro-duced to the following themes: variety of consumer goods and services, aspects of safety and quality, consumer rights and their protection, but the knowledge associated with advertisement and its manipulations with consumer’s sense seemed to be not so important to them. The findings of the study also showed great interest of present and future teachers in consumer education. Most teachers and two third parts of students would like to extend their knowledge in this field; however, currently possibilities to raise qualification are insufficient.

    Sporto mokslas / Sport Science, 2009, no. 1, p. 67-74

Risk of frequent morbidity, self-reported health status and frequent use of medicines for headache and nervous strain was 1.5-1.7 times higher to those who exercise sometimes or never compared to those who exercise 2-3 and more times per week. School surroundings are not quite healthy and comfortable for Lithuanian students. Two thirds of students (67,0%) evaluated possibility to exercise during brakes as bad. The possibility to use to advantage the brakes when there are no lessons during the day at school (the "windows") was evaluated positively only by one fifth part of the respondents. The study showed that the information on some health topics students are getting at school is not sufficient. Every fifth respondent evaluated their information on physical activity and hardening as insufficient. One third part of them feels lack of information on headwork hygiene, stress management and doping influence on health.

    Sporto mokslas / Sport Science, 2010, no. 4, p. 53-59

It was found that every third-fourth physical education teacher self evaluated their health education competence as insufficient. The ability to integrate health education topics into lessons of physical education was evaluated as insufficient significantly more often by representatives from countryside schools compared to those from city schools. Physical education teachers reported difficulties creating healthy surroundings, methodically directing students to harden off, conducting lessons outdoors in winter, working with the students of impaired health, explaining links between exercising and nutrition. Lack of these abilities was more emphasized by countryside teachers, and those who haven’t got higher physical education. Groups of teacher’s health education abilities extracted by the factorial analysis showed that special abilities of the physical education subject and general abilities (communication, collaboration) are less important compared to special health education abilities for successful implementation of health education tasks during the lessons of physical education. The study results suggest that projecting the prevention points of schoolchildren’s health it is important to extend, adjust and implement more single-minded theoretical and practical content of health education for present and coming teachers of physical education.

Reguliarus fizinis aktyvumas yra svarbi sveikos gyvensenos dalis, turinti teigia-mą trumpalaikį ir ilgalaikį poveikį sveikatai. Nors akademinį jaunimą galima apibūdinti kaip santykinai sveiką visuomenės populiacijos grupę, tiek Lietuvoje, tiek ir kitose šalyse atliekamų mokslinių tyrimų rezultatai rodo, kad daugelio studentų fizinis aktyvumas neatitinka Pasaulio sveikatos organizacijos rekomendacijų. Remiantis moksline literatūra ir empiriniu tyrimu, straipsnyje siekiama atskleisti Lietuvos edukologijos universiteto studentų fizinį aktyvumą lemiančius veiksnius.

Optimal physical activity was more characteristic for the students whose mother’s education is higher (43,2%) compared to the coevals with lower maternal education (33,5%), χ 2 =11,19, p=0,011. This difference is significant for the students, who live in the city. Students whose homework’s doing duration does not exceed the limit of 13 hours during the week, as it is recommended in the hygienic regulations, characterize optimal physical activity (66,1%) more often compared to those who prepare homework longer (53,7%), χ 2 =15,68, p=0,0001. Insufficient physical activity was more prevalent among those students who considered their ability to move actively at school as poor or insufficient (94,2%) compared to those, who evaluated this possibility as good (90,6%), χ 2 =4,6, p=0,032; to 12-formers these possibilities are more important than for 11 – formers. Among the students who indicated they lack the ability to schedule work and leisure time 52,1% of the respondents were characterized to have insufficient physical activity and 40,5% optimal physical activity, χ 2 =13,38, p=0,0001. This evidence is especially important among the girls and residents of the cities. Conclusion. Mother’s higher education, optimal duration of homework, favourable possibilities to move actively during the brakes at school, student’s ability to schedule work and leisure time are important in ensuring optimal physical activity among the 11-12 form students.

    Socialinis ugdymas / Social Education, 2008, vol. 17, p. 54-66

The article contains the results of the survey on the demand of social workers in stationary health institution. The survey was carried out by the method of anonymous interrogation. 50 health care institution medics from the Alytus district and 174 patients were questioned. The research confirmed the need of social workers in stationary health care institutions.Social workers' activity in health care institutions, according to the medics, has to do with consultations and rendering information on social issues, with provision of psychological help and resolving patients' everyday life problems. Respondents-patients claim that it has to do with rendering information and consulting on social issues, representing patients as well as ensuring the succession of social services. The individual's health care perfomed by a social worker in health care institutions will be successful if the stationary curing departments, social service, the institutions providing information and certain social services, other health care institutions (Primary Health Care Centres, medical help, nursing curing stationeries, medical rehabilitation and sanatorium institutions) and social work evaluation group would work not as separate structures, but as unanimous, able to collaborate and interested in work effectiveness institutions.
