Mathias Casimirus Sarbievius (1595-1640) is generally recognized to be one of the major poets, theatre theorist and creator of Baroque aesthetics of the Western Europe in the seventeenth century. It was in Vilnius where Sarbievius wrote the biggest part of his works and it was here in Lithuania where he wrote his magnum opus – “Poetics” (1626-1631).
