The paper is meant to disclose the current situation of teaching / learning process of English for specific purposes (ESP) at Siauliai University. It includes some historical considerations referring to the developments of ESP, especially its terminology, and a theoretical background. The core of the article is students’ needs and current situation assessment analysis and interpretation the aim of which is to lay a motivated background for the development of an appropriate syllabus design in order to improve the present situation of teaching and mastering ESP at the University.
