The analysis of the research results conducted in Lithuania (R.Vilkonis (2004), A. Pikūnas (1997), O.Lukoševičienė (2001)) necessitates a particular attention to development of pedestrian safety competence at school. Each teacher should be concerned about school learners’ behaviour in the street and they should discuss the current situation in the roads during lessons as well as before or after them. It has to be emphasised that only teachers’ efforts are not enough to form child’s behaviour model. Child’s behaviour is, to big extent, affected by the society, which, unfortunately, is tended to create inappropriate rather than appropriate behaviour models. Such tendency was clearly demonstrated by the research into the situation of pedestrian reflector use, which was an integral part of the research “Safe Traffic Education at Schools”, which was conducted in 2007 following the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science. The goal of the research was to investigate wearing/not wearing of pedestrian reflectors and safe/risky crossing of the street among school learners from 1 to 4 and from 5 to 8 forms. The learners’ self-protection in the street was investigated observing and recording wearing/not wearing of pedestrian reflectors and safe/risky crossing of the street of school learners from 1 to 4 and from 5 to 8 forms. It was identified that the absolute majority of primary school learners wear pedestrian reflectors. This allows for conclusion that the use of safety reflectors at this stage is observed and under control. However, the research revealed that wearing of reflectors is not common among 5th –8th formers and that almost half of them seldom wear pedestrian reflectors.
