Linux, Mozilla, MySQL, OpenOffice.org etc. are used all over the world. Open source applications are very important in education area: 1) it is free and can be used in all institutions without restrictions, 2) it may be improved, adapt, localized etc., 3) it is real tool for investigation and analyses. The main problems in this field is to involve educators and policy makers of education, to disseminate effectively the information about open source applications, and to bring students and teachers together for improving open code. Considering this the study on open source in Lithuanian education has been fulfilled [10]. The evaluation of the role of open source in general education and the analysis of the attitudes towards open initiatives were the main objectives of the study and the aim of this paper as well.
