Abstract: The aim of our investigation was to determine the effect of sowing time of winter oilseed rape in autumn on rosette formation and over-wintering. The experiment carried out in the Experimental Station of Lithuanian University of Agriculture in 2009-2010. Winter rape sown at August 20-September 5, according to biometric parameters, were best prepared for wintering: they had 6.4-9.6 leaves, diameter of root colar was 4.5-10.2 mm, height of apical bud was 9.1-45,6 mm. The growing and development in autumn and over-wintering of hybrid winter rape was better than that of linear winter rape. Winter rape sown at August 30-September 5 over-wintered best. The influence of sowing time on over-wintering was stronger for winter rape of linear cultivar. Winter rape sown at the latest date (September 15) didn't over-winter. Correlation was established between over-wintering and main biometric parameters of winter rape rossete in autumn, which were determined by the sum of temperatures ^2°C
