Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate how sensitivity to reward and punishment are related to intentional risky driving behaviour according to the gender of Lithuanian young drivers. 148 (62 males and 86 females, aged 18-25) participated in the study on voluntary basis. All subjects of this study were licensed to drive vehicle (B category). The scale of 27 items measured the general score of driving violations, speeding, violations of vehicle manoeuvring rules and seat belts nonuse. Sensitivity to reward and punishment were measured with the SPSRQ. No significant gender differences on any indicator of intentional driving violations were found. Meanwhile male participants were found to be more sensitive to reward and females reported higher sensitivity to punishment. Higher sensitivity to reward was positively related to speeding, violations of vehicle manoeuvring rules, seal belts nonuse and general score of driving violations in male but not female drivers' group. Higher sensitivity to punishment was negatively related to speeding only for females.
