Abstract
October was the centenaries of two Lithuanian composers – Jonas Lechavicius and Jonas Svedas. The biographies of both are associated with Kaunas city – they were born here, one on 8 December, the other on 9 December. Both contributed to the development of culture: created music, headed musical ensembles, educated students, but were acknowledged in different ways: Svedas was adorned as a distinguished Soviet artist, professor and Soviet State prize-winner, while Jonas Lechavicius worked in obscurity: he headed amateur musical groups and wrote music in silence.
