Abstract
Baigiamajame darbe analizuojamos trys populiariausios informacinės televizijos JAV –
FOX News, MSNBC ir CNN. Tirti pasirinktos labiausiai Trump‘o prezidentavimo metu visuomenę
Analizuojamos
žiūrimiausiu paros metu (Prime Time) rodytos laidos, tikrinama vedėjų retorika, kalbinamų svečių

In the face of a massive political division among the US population, the ongoing political
conflict has expanded into many other spheres of life. A clear example of this can be noticed in the US
media, that is currently suffering from low trust among the general public. In the public discourse media
outlets are being generally categorized by the political ideas or parties they support, however, such
allegations are almost never openly addressed by the outlets themselves. By analysing the most popular
US TV news shows, one of the objectives of this paper is proving or disproving such allegations. Other
objectives include the assessment of the media‘s role in the formation and catalyzation of the ongoing
political conflict. Three hypotheses, along with their proposed proofs, are presented in this paper.
Objective – assess the media outlets‘ bias during the presidency period of Donald Trump
by analysing the most popular TV news shows; apply political science theory in order to explain the
potential motives and consequences of the political conflict in the US media.
The analysis focuses on three most popular US news TV channels – FOX News, MSNBC
and CNN. The events on which these TV channels reported were chosen by the political division they
created and the clear separation of opposing ideas that followed. The analysed shows were broadcasted
during Prime Time, analysed objects include the host‘s rhetoric, political positions taken by the show‘s
guests, host‘s opinions on the subject.
The results of the analysis show that FOX News is clearly aligned with right-wing political
narrative, while MSNBC and CNN are aligned with the left. Also, support from the both sides of the
media extends even to the more radical political ideas without any exhibited pushback; such reporting
can be considered a contributing factor of the increasing political distancing away from the central
position in the political spectrum. FOX News has also exhibited aggressive pushback against the other
news outlets they consider left-leaning, however, two of the left-leaning channels analyzed in this paper
did not respond with strong criticism of FOX News. Considering these conclusions it is safe to declare
that the political conflict within the news media is not only an accurate representation of the partisan
conflict happening in the public space, but is a catalyst to that conflict itself
