The aim of this thesis is to reveal dependence and peculiarities between teenager’s self-esteem and relations with parents. Family links and parent’s interrelations with children firstly and most suggestively model their communication. Relations with parents belong to the main factors in formation of teenagers’ self-esteem. Adolescence has openness to alternatives and changes and maturing person can change present aims for future and try to test new ones. Therefore, it is important to understand how self-esteem change and influence our self-relations and relations with others and how to nurture and elevate self-esteem; moreover, how the parents-children relations influence teenagers’ self-evaluation. 62 schoolchildren of 14-17 years and their parents participated in the research. Schoolchildren from 8-10 forms and their parents from J. Urbšys Catholic School were invited to participate in the survey. The survey was of two parts: self-esteem and interrelations scale. For evaluation of teenagers’ self-esteem, The Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale; Rosenberg, 1965, was used. This scale was complemented with criteria of self-esteem practices from Imparfaits, libres et heureux, Pratiques de l'estime de soi (Christophe André). For estimation of family interrelations Likert scale was used. When using latter method, group of affirmations about relations between schoolchildren and their parents were elaborated. Empiric evaluation revealed higher self-esteem for boys. Teenagersʼ self-esteem improves with the recovery of relations with parents (p < 0.000; r = 0.465). Increase of respondents’ self-esteem results in growth of their relations satisfaction (p < 0.003; r = 0.372). Better self-esteem encourages to take more difficult tasks and to reach higher objectives; herewith self-esteem is even more strengthened. A statistically significant association between teenagerʼs self-esteem and courage to undertake difficult tasks was measured (p < 0.000; r = 0.671**). Having better self-satisfaction children can enjoy their own and other peopleʼs achievements and to create wider social relations. Discovered importance and dependencies between teenager’s self-esteem formation and relations in the family and with the parents allow to create preventive, interventive or psychoeducational programs for teenagers and their parents, to teach them better social interaction which is essential for psychological and emotional health and effective communication skills. In addition, this could help to avoid low self-esteem related problems during adolescence, to improve family, i.e. parents and teenager’s relations.
