The last decade of twentieth and the first decade of the twenty-first century in Lithuania was marked not only by important political and social changes but by changes in art field as well. This was a period when autonomic and independent from political machine art was born closely followed by new creative strategies. In this context artist Redas Diržys (born 1969) art has been an exceptional phenomenon. His art was exemplified by interactive, communicative, institutional critics strategies and it was significant intervention into socially and politically motivated critical art not only in Alytus and Lithuania, but in international field as well. The artist's projects that were put to life at the end of twentieth century had many strategies that were typical to avant-garde art and it's art-life interaction. This interaction between artist and viewer, artist and his specific city environment formed a critical understanding and experience of art and surroundings. In the background of post-soviet Lithuania these Western avant-garde art ideas were provocative interventions into art field and public space. Press analysis is a staple of communication strategies in Diržys' works. In his projects press is used as a means of communication and also as a means for wider dispersion of his works. In the mean time the practice of imitation and critics of bureaucracy were marked by the use of non-art materials (in institutional context). The transitional limitations and ongoing conflict between main Lithuanian art institutions at the turn of the century and the first decade of twenty-first century, progressively growing number of art biennials all over the world was a stimulus for controversial and critical ideas in Diržys' art. His egalitarian and on situationist aesthetics based creative strategies marked by critics of capitalism, culture, institutions and art system imparted rhetoric of protest and strike but in spite of this these strategies were working strictly in an institutional field.
