The ground of nurses’ work is steady relations with people, during which nurses experience differently intensive mental strain, that eventually may become the cause of mental and pfysical state impairment. Understanding the increasing role of nurses in the Health system, by this work we was seeking to measure the relations between personality traits, social support and stress coping strategies. The research was accomplished using data of 185 female nurses, working in the ambulant health care institution and two mental hospitals. The questionnaire of Stress coping strategies (COPE) of Carver, Scheier and Weintraub (1989), Big Five Inventory and questionnaire of Social support (The Medical Outcomes Study Social Support Survey), that was made in Sherbourne, Steward (1991) were used to measure stress coping ways. The results of the research discovered, that nurses usually used stress coping strategies, directed to the emotions. However, they often use stress coping atrategies, directed to problem solving as well. Less addaptive stress coping strategies were used most rarely. There weren‘t discovered significant differences between personality traits and stress coping, directed to the problem. There was identified that nurses, who are more opened for the experience, use more often stress coping strategy, directed to the emotions. Whereas, the nurses who are more neurotic and having less sympathy, extravesion and consciousness, use less addaptive stress coping strategies. Evaluating receivable support there was identified, that nurses‘ emotional support rates are the highest, whereas, informational and instrumental support rates are the lowest. The level of receivable support influences the choice of stress coping strategy. The nurses receiving more social support more often choose both: stress coping strategies, directed to emotions and to the problem. There is a tendency that nurses who are receiving more instrumental support more often use stress coping strategy directed to the problem. The nurses receiving more social support more often use both: stress coping strategies, directed to the problem and to emotions. The data of the recearch confirm, that major levels of the support influence the choice of both stress coping strategies directed to the problem and to the emotions as well.
