Women’s drug addiction is relatively new research topic in social sciences. Recently, more attention is being paid to the development of drug dependence taking into account the gender aspect. Many discussions have been started on the specificity of needs of female drug users and ensuring of the necessary support. The purpose of this paper is to review the basic theoretical knowledge about female drug users and discuss it in the context of social work. Drug use in many ways contradicts what is seen as the social ideal of feminine behaviour and therefore negative moral judgments and stereotypes are more likely in the case of drug-using women than men. Female drug users are often seen as failing as partners, mothers and guardians of moral standards. The main negative stereotypes describe them as being aggressive and manipulative, acting without feelings and emotions or suppressing them in favor of getting drugs. The life stories of female drug users will be in the centre of the study that will help to reveal the unique experience of the research participants, and to recognize their positive characteristics and factors which provide the strength to carry on. The aim of the research is to reveal the psychosocial factors leading to drug use in the narrations of women drug users. The objectives of the study are: to identify the causes that have led women to drug taking; what is the effect of drug use in women's social, psychological and physical condition; and to reveal the factors that contribute to refusing drugs. four women (from 25 to 50 years old) that are using injecting drugs participated in the study. In order to reveal the experiences of women drug users, individual interviews were conducted using the method of unstructured interview with inserts of the in-depth interview. The method of unstructured interview allowed to enter into the relationship with the survey participants and gave the researcher a possibility to conduct the conversation "here and now." Following the analysis of women's experiences, the domination of psychological and social reasons that led to the start of drug use were identified in the women's narrations; but assessing the risk and the motifs of drug use, it is possible to create and strengthen the preventive anti-drug factors. A range of factors influencing woman's refusal to take drugs are identified as follows: services reducing the drug use and promoting refusal to take drugs; the help of relatives; the expectations for the woman-mother’s role and women’s aspiration to justify them; religion; and personal responsibility for recovering seeking for child’s well-being.
