Abstract
A. Nugaraite.
Media constantly moves towards modernization and makes the society to accept new changes. Surrounded by transformations a new journalistic form emerges – hybrid discourse, which has not been defined yet in scientific literature. Therefore, this confused discourse has been chosen as the object of the research. The aim of the work is to determine the main reasons for the convergence of media and public relations and to describe the most relevant preconditions in today’s Lithuanian media. The work is composed of three parts: the first part describes the changes of media, the second part devotes to the presentation of hybrid discourse, and the third part provides and discusses the qualitative results of the research. While conducting the research it was refused to carry out the analysis of the press, as it is more interesting to look at the real processes of work and to communicate with practices. Thus, the analytic-descriptive method has been applied, the monitoring of the leading editing offices and interviews with reporters, news editors and experts – prof. dr. R. Marcinkeviciene, doc. A. Nugaraite. Ethnographic study and conversations with practices affirmed that the convergence of journalistic publications and press-release is related with economical changes, the interaction of politics and media, the appearance of global processes, and the diffusion of technological innovations. Mass media is becoming commercialized, the institutions that suppose to regulate the media are inoperative; the society gets news that is beneficial for the politics or even ‘purchased’ ones. The renewal of information and communication technologies weakens the functions of journalists. The society is not able to go through huge amounts of information and consequently, postmodern, commercial texts influenced by the globalization appear, change and transform, genres of journalism converge and culture of ‘fast-use’ becomes acceptable. After the systematization of scientific concepts it was agreed to call the entirety of primary sources, where double-cited new, an opinion of journalist, agitation, and other campaign of public relations interact as a hybrid discourse. A confused discourse has been noticed in all editing offices that have been investigated, but the formulated term still cannot be practical justified by one hundred percent. The biggest part of respondents treats this form of text as copied news, but does not relate it with global innovations, genre conflict between the text and the commercial. It is noticed that no single editing office verifies the information, not always provides the sources of information, and only in the small offices the mistakes of style and language are corrected. Hence, the problem is unsolved – the modern processes causes more negative consequences, that results in the anticipated perverted effect on society and it is pandered to the low taste of mass consumer.
