The middle of 1944 was the beginning of armed resistance against the Soviet occupation. In 1946 the consolidation of all the detachment groups was finished and guerrilla districts were formed. A duty of honor was for each guerrilla district to issue a newspaper. The underground press in 1946 ranged from irregular mimeographed leaflets and posters to printed periodicals. The guerrilla district „Algimantas“ issued the newspaper „Partizanų kova“ (The Struggle of Partisans). It was published in 1946—1951 and had a distribution of about 1000 copies. The „Partizanų kova“ carried both international and local information, and it also wrote about the resistance movement and fights. There were poetry and fiction in it, too. In the international news, the surveys of the USA and the USSR relations dominated. The authors emphasized the strain of relations and expected a war. The reestablishmenl of the Lithuanian independence was associated with the possible help of the USA. The greatest interest was devoted to the international news. The papers urged to resist the Soviet oppression and to fight against the Sovietization of the Lithuanian life, not to enter collective farms. The „Partizanų kova“ encouraged Freedom fighters in their hard life and helped them in their fight for independence.
