Literary translation as the main means of intercultural communication

Šiame straipsnyje pateikiami kai kurie literatūrinio vertimo, kaip pagrindinės tarpkultūrinės komunikacijos priemonės, aspektai. Analizuojamas kritinis žymaus Gruzijos rašytojo ir visuomeninio veikėjo Iljos Čavčadzės laiškas, paskelbtas XIX a. antroje pusėje. Laiške aptariamas medžiagos vertimui parinkimas, kalba ir stilius. Tvirtinama, kad poezijos ir prozos dvikalbiai rinkiniai yra geriausi tarpkultūrinės komunikacijos pavyzdžiai. Kaip pavyzdys pateiktas dvikalbis studentų leidinys, išleistas Tbilisio valstybinio universiteto leidykloje ir skirtas Vilniaus universiteto 400 metų jubiliejaus progai.
This paper presents selected aspects of literary translation as a basic method of intercultural communication. An analysis is made of a critical letter by the prominent Georgian writer and public figure Ilia Chavchavadze, published in the second half of the 19th century, which addresses literary translation and discusses the main issues of material selection, language, and style. It is stated that bilingual collections of prose or poetry can be regarded as the best examples of intercultural communication. As an illustrative example, the paper presents the bilingual student literary edition Khe Imedisa (“The Tree of Hope”), published by I. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, which was devoted to the 400th anniversary of the foundation of Vilnius University.
