Education of convicts in custodial institutions: motivation, goals and social reintegration

Abstract

The article analyses the aspects of convicts’ education in custodial institutions. The theoretical part focuses on the overview of Lithuanian and foreign scientific literature sources, which focus on the purpose of education and its effect on individual’s becoming a full-fledged citizen. Normative documents are employed to discuss the right of convicts to training and education. The empiric part presents the attitude of 107 convicts from imprisonment institutions towards learning and education and the importance of the latter for their further projection of life after their release.
