Straipsnis skirtas muzikos specialybės įkūrimo Vilniaus valstybiniame pedagoginiame institute (VPI) 45-mečiui paminėti. Remiantis katedrų posėdžių protokolais, studijų programomis, respondentų apklausa, apžvelgiami čia dirbusių pedagogų ir jų auklėtinių nuveikti darbai, pabrėžiami nuostoliai, padaryti respublikos muzikinio ugdymo raidai, šią specialybę perkeliant į Klaipėdą
The article is dedicated to commemorate the 45-year anniversary since the establishment of the speciality of Music at Vilnius Pedagogical Institute (referred to as VPI thereafter). The article is an overview of works performed by VPI tutors of music and their learners; it has been compiled on the basis of department session minute documents, study programmes and surveys. The existence of a subject like Music at VPI in the period between 1957 and 1974 determined the formation of new attitudes towards teaching Music at Lithuanian schools of general education. The graduates of the Institute have laid the scientific ground for the national conception of musical education in their research and methodical works. The author of the article has a negative attitude towards transferring the location of music teacher training from Vilnius to Klaipėda in 1974. Uninterrupted existence of the speciality of Music at VPI (called Vilnius Pedagogical University - VPU - at present) could make this teacher training establishment the centre of capacity building in teaching music. It could unite its graduates who are famous educators at present for continuous training of music teachers. Although the speciality of Music was reestablished at VPU in 1992, and the institution’s educators can use the scientific and methodical potential of its graduates of earlier times, they only had a possibility to organise a system of musical studies from the very start in 1992.
