Creation of the information society and progress of science and technology from all specialists requires independent judgement with different problems. The goal of the research was to reveal the theoretical and practical aspects of individual work and its relation to the secondary school and university. The research is based on the idea, that the individual work of students is related with education and self-education processes expressed as purposeful, motivated and independent education activity.
111 pupils of secondary school from Vilnius and Klaipeda cities and 130 students of Vilnius Pedagogical University and Pedagogical Faculty of Klaipeda University participated in the research. With the help of meta-analysis, questionnaires and the critical interpretation discourse the peculiarity of original work in the secondary school and the university is discussed. The content of individual work in the secondary school and university presented by the respondents confirm that original work usually is related to projects, generalisation and writing.
The respondents declared that individual work helps develop independent and critical thinking. It is realised during learning activity and project tasks.
Having summarised the obtained results of the research, we can state, that all respondents (pupils of secondary school and students of university) understand the importance of the individual work in self-education. Forms of the individual work and problems in the secondary school and university are similar. The research revealed differences between the complexity ofindividualwork presented forschoolchildren and students. Schoolchildren prepare less complex work comparing with students, however 47,5 % schoolchildren proclaimed that proposed work was very complex. Over a half ofschoolchildren indicated that teachers had no requirements for work and the criteria of the assessment.
