Lietuvos Respublikos (1918-1940) pradinės mokyklos mokytojų rengimo tyrimas (atliktas 2000 m.) ligšiolines švietimo raidos studijas papildė nauja medžiaga. Straipsnyje pateikiamos ryškesnės pradinės mokyklos mokytojų rengimo tobulinimo kryptys, analizuojami bandymai keisti mokytojų seminarijų ugdymo turinį stiprinant pedagoginį, psichologinį bei metodinį rengimą.
A research of training of the primary school teachers in the Republic of Lithuania in 1918- 1940 carried in the year 2000 supplemented the studies of current development of the education system with the new material based on archival sources. This material allows us to disagree with the predominant opinion that training of teachers at the seminary stabilized since 1922 and remained unchanged throughout the period of the Republic of Lithuania.
The article presents the most prominent trends of improvement of training of the primary school teachers. It also analyzes attempts to change contents of education at the teachers’ seminary by laying stress on pedagogical, psychological and methodical education of teachers. Nevertheless, emphasizing the need of pedagogical and general cultural preparation, it was decided to start training the primary school teachers at the higher education institutions.
