Straipsnio objektas – prieštaringai vertinamo prancūzų rašytojo Alfredo Jarry (1873–1907) pjesė Karalius Ūbas (Ubu Roi), kurioje veiksmas vyksta Lenkijoje ir Lietuvoje, o vienas iš veikėjų – lokys. Visų pirma kyla klausimų, kodėl veiksmo fonui pasirinkta mūsų šalis ir ką reiškia Lietuvos ir lokio sugretinimas. Į tai bandome atsakyti, atkurdami kūrinio genezę ir atlikdami jo analizę. Tyrimui pasitelkiame kai kuriuos struktūrinės analizės principus ir komparatyvinės imagologijos nuostatas. Mums svarbu atskleisti Jarry kuriamo Lietuvos įvaizdžio „logiką ir tiesą“ (Jean-Marc Moura).
he subject matter of the article is a play King Ubu (Ubu Roi), written by a controversial French writer Alfred Jarry (1873–1907). The action of the play, in which one of the protagonists is a bear, takes place in Poland and Lithuania. The question may arise why the author chose Lithuania for the background of his story and why he decided to include the image of a bear. The interpretation is based upon the genesis and analysis of the play by using the principles of structural analysis and comparative imagology. The aim is to reveal the “logic and truth” (Jean‑Marc Moura) of the image of Lithuania that is created by Jarry.
