The article analyses the students’ attitude towards woman’s and man’s role in realization offamily functions. 653 students participated in the research. 387 (59.6 %) from urban schools, 210 (32.4 %) from rural schools and 52 (8 %) from schools in region centers. The essential family functions were selected for the research: educational, communicative, socio-cultural and economic. The students were provided with the descriptive situations for the evaluation of family functions phenomenon.
Data analysis of students research indicated that both boys and girls layed more emphasis regarding educational and economic functions on woman; girls in comparison to boys, made greater demands for woman regarding those functions (especially in the traditionally ascribed to womanly activity). Students of all Forms ascribed educational and economic functions as more important to woman; students of Forms 7 layed the most emphasis on both woman’s and man’s role in realization of educational, communicative, socio-cultural and economic functions; the importance of traditional kinds of activity (discussion of society issues, material maintenance of the family, technization of family life, aesthetics of life, cleanness at home, organization of rest out of family) was rising from junior Forms to senior Forms. Independently of place of living, the students ascribed educational and economic functions as more important to woman, however the students from rural schools layed the most emphasis on woman’s role regarding all functions, whereas man’s role was the most emphasized only in economic function. Such students’ attitude could be interpreted as their needs as well as interests related to the reflection of woman’s and man’s role in the family. The students relate the safety of their family (and that of their own) to the traditional gender images.
