Straipsnyje nagrinėjamas žmogaus kūno semiotinis aspektas anglų postmodernizmo laikotarpiu ir jo ryškinimas vaizdinėje erdvėje. Tyrimas, atliktas semantiniu ir kognityviniu būdu, parodė vaizdinės konceptualizacijos krypties dominavimą, kai konceptinė metafora „kūnas – tai ženklas“ buvo naudojama apibendrinimui. Šis požiūris akcentuoja ne tik ženklinę kūniškumo prigimtį, bet ir jos erotinius aspektus, taip pat koreliuoja su personažo mentaline ir psichofiziologine būsena.
The article focuses on the study of the poetic interpretation of the HUMAN BODY domain in the imagery space of English literary prose of the postmodernist period, with a special emphasis on its semiotic nature. The material of the study is J. Winterson’s novel Written on the Body. The research is carried out through conceptual analysis, which involved reconstructing conceptual metaphors in the text. The results demonstrated the significance of the conceptual metaphor HUMAN BODY IS A SIGN in the imagery space of the analyzed literary work, represented by the conceptual metaphor HUMAN BODY IS A TEXT and the conceptual metonymy HUMAN BODY IS A PALIMPSEST/MANUSCRIPT. Such a poetic interpretation of the HUMAN BODY emphasizes its erotic and existential aspects, correlating with the physiological and psychological states of the novel’s characters and reflecting the vision of corporeality specific to postmodernist philosophy.
