Šiame sraipsnyje pristatoma Europos ateities konferencijos koncepcija, pagrįsta daugelio piliečių išreikštu nepasitikėjimu Europos institucijomis ir priklausymo Europos demokratijai jausmu. Straipsnyje, remiantis literatūros ir dokumentų analize, atkreipiamas dėmesys į laipsnišką piliečių priemonių, skirtų politikai formuoti, tobulinti, išvardijami keli vietos, regionų ir nacionalinio dalyvavimo procesai, priimant Europos sprendimus ir politiką. Labai ambicinga konferencija dėl Europos ateities prasidėjo prieš penkis mėnesius ir turėtų trukti dar mažiausiai pusę metų. Atrodo, kad konferencijos pradžios procesas buvo labai sėkmingas, tačiau atsiranda trikdžių, susijusių su piliečių atstovavimu, sprendimus priimančių asmenų indėliu ir plataus valstybių narių bei Europos dalyvavimo stoka. Tačiau svarbus žingsnis buvo žengtas ir bus tęsiamas.
The Paper offers a background for the Conference on the Future of Europe rooted in many citizens' stated lack of trust in the European institutions and a sense of belonging in a European democracy. The Paper points to the gradual improvement of its tools for citizens to engage in policymaking and lists several local, regional, and national participatory processes in European decisions and policies. The very ambitious Conference on the Future of Europe started five months ago and is expected to last until end of May this year. With great successes, the conference process also seems to indicate shortcomings concerning representativity among citizens, how the decision-makers receive inputs from citizens, and the lack of broad involvement across member states and Europe. However, an important step has been taken and will continue.
