Straipsnyje, skirtame prof.
The article is dedicated to discussing the problem of developing an individual’s will as one of the basic educational postulates raised by Prof. J. Laužikas. It is stated that will development be interpreted as one of the most important tasks in the theory of education in order to make a person the creator of his/her personality as well as the future of the nation and the society. None of the best intentions a person may have can be brought to existence without his/her strong will. The article also stresses the interaction between evaluative orientation and will. Therefore, will cannot be developed by using authoritarian models or patterns. Nevertheless, in the process of creating a democratic society and school, transition from the autocratic style of education to the democratic one often leads to extremities like indulging the learners or application of old autocratic methods. In order to protect educators from such extremities in their school practice, it is purposeful to make use of the wisdom and good practice accumulated in the theory and history of education and related to will development problems, preconditions for their solution and even methodical ideas.
