Popiežius Jonas XXIII yra pasakęs: „Duokite man šventų Motinų, aš pakeisiu pasauli“. Deja, ne tik šventų, bet paprasčiausiai normalių motinų, pirmiausia besirūpinančių savo vaikais, jų likimu, kaskart vis labiau pasigendame. Vis dažniau išgirstame kraupių žinių apie gimdytojas (neapsiverčia liežuvis jas pavadinti motinomis), pametančias, kankinančias ir netgi nužudančias savo vaikus. Kas atsitiko? Ką daryti, kad motinos atliktų savo motiniškas pareigas? Šie klausimai ir paskatino išminties paieškoti praeities pedagogų darbuose. M. Peč- kauskaitė pasirinkta neatsitiktinai: jos mintys šiandien itin aktualios, nes joms turėjo Įtakos pažangiausi Vakarų Europos pedagogikos klasikai ir jos atliepia žymiausių šių dienų ugdymo teoretikų mintis. Ir ne tik teoretikų. Daug paralelių galima rasti tarp Motinos Teresės ir Marijos Pečkauskaitės altruistinės motiniškos nelaimingųjų globos
The article analyses the attitude towards the mother as an educator presented by a famous Lithuanian educationalist of the 20th century, Marija Peckauskaite. The author also draws parallels between M. Peckauskaite’s ideas given in the early 20th century and those raised by Mother Theresa at the end of the same century. Such parallels indicate that M. Peckauskaite’s pedagogical ideas have retained their significance until the present. While speaking about the education! role of a mother and disclosing its huge impact on further personality development, Marija Peckauskaite emphasises that this role is strongly conditioned by strong and harmonious family relationships. In her opinion, this is also the reason why preparing girls for future family life has utmost importance. The issue under discussion has recently gained more significance, as in the present-day situation one can observe a decline in the stability of the family as an institution and child / juvenile delinquency is growing at an enormous pace. In the author’s opinion, the above two problems are closely interrelated
