The article analyses establishment and development of the system of improvement of professional skills of the primary school teachers in Lithuania between the two world wars. The goal ol the research is to disclose the development of the system of improving the professional skills ol primary school teachers and to analyse the most significant trends of the improvement ol skills. Improvement of professional skills of teachers in Lithuania was carried taking into account the most urgent needs of the country’s educational system. At the beginning of the establishment ol the national school the key task considered to be the improvement of the general education level ol teachers. Later, the improvement of teachers’ training system and interaction ol all fields ol the education system brought the problems of pedagogical -psichological and methodical - practical qualifications of teachers to the first place
