In the 16-17 centuries such famous representatives of Lithuanian culture as historians, professors of Vilnius University, educationists (M. Strijkovskis, A. Vijūkas-Kojelavičius, A. Rasijus and others) wrote that history is a teacher of life. It helps to understand the current time and to prepare the ground for practical activity. These ideas became the basis for introducing history into secondary school. At about 1629 history as a subject was included into the curricula of reformers’ schools and in the 1741 years it was introduced into Jesuit secondary schools. At the end of the 18-century the course of country study was started taught too. The main aim of it was to form patriotic and civic feelings of the youth.
