The last decades have seen a rapid increase in new information flows, emergence of complementary scientific theories, cognition criteria, change of priorities in the value system and it is obviously much more important to be able to think, use (read as well as represent) and select information rationally, autonomously and reasonably than merely accumulate it. In the discussion of European Round Table of Industrialists (1995) the social role of educational subjects was highlighted. This viewpoint is closely related with levels of literacy. A particular emphasis is placed on statistical skills, which enable us to understand, analyse and assess information, i.e. to manage information. This article presents the aims and the functions of information management at the intersection of education paradigms. The aim of the research is to distinguish information management skills as object of social communications and define their aims and functions.
