Church played an important role in musical activities of J. Kačinskas. For him, the Church was not only a place to pray, but also the centre of Lithuanian culture. That’s why the composer paid great attention to church music that, in his opinion, could bring man closer to God and to instil the rudiments of the good and the beautiful into him. J. Kačinskas believed that the organist has to be a professional musician and an artist with a sensitive soul, and that his mission was to guard the Church from any manifestations of poor artistic taste. When due to his age he was obliged to give up his position as an organist at St Peter’s Lithuanian church in Boston, J. Kačinskas was not happy with the young organists and was upset about the decline of church music. J. Kačinskas was also disappointed in the secular musical life of Lithuanians in Boston, that’s why he was interested mainly in concerts of professional musicians from Lithuania. Creative work was the source of spiritual satisfaction to J. Kačinskas. In the period of 1997- 2001, he wrote 4 compositions on religious subjects: String Quartet No. 4, „Credo“ for Mixed Choir, Organ and Brass, Music for Brass Ensemble „2000 Year Anniversary of Jesus Christ’s Holy Message to the People“ and a Cantatina „Lucis Creator Optime“. They were based on the composer’s previous style: he used athematic and atonal development of music, chromatic linear texture, and regular metrorhythmic change. Creative work for him was not a search for innovative artistic ideas, but rather gratitude to God and an attempt to break out from the ties of routine.
