Early Forecasting and Monitoring System for Genetic Biodiversity Loss in Keystone Forest Tree SpeciesItem type:Project, Tarptautinis / International2025-03-01 - 2028-02-29. Forests are our dearest treasure, who's resilience is compromised by strong and concerted pressure of global warming stressors. Forest resilience largely depends on high genetic diversity of key-stone forest tree species. Our consortium intends to team up scientists, sectoral agencies, forest owners and NGOs to create, pilot and implement a durable, transnational genetic diversity monitoring (GM) system that could effectively estimate genetic biodiversity and timely warn on coming declines for keystone forest tree species along BSR. The keystone tree species for forest ecosystems in BSR are: Quercus robur, Picea abies, Tilia cordata and Fraxinus excelsior. These species were selected as having the greatest impact on resilience and biodiversity of BSR forests. Our GM network via transnational teaming would safeguard the transition to a green and resilient forest-rich region in BSR. It could be a key initiative cascading similar networks in Europe, which will ultimately be merged into a pan-European network for safeguarding our forests. The GM system in each country consists of (a) network of GM plots for keystone forest tree species, (b) GM methods based on DNA genotyping, phenotyping and remote sensing, (c) common action plan for genetic diversity enrichment in case of detected declines, and (d) national legal implementation. GM is based on comparison of genetic diversity between generations of trees. http://www.lifegenmon.si/
63 BOOSTing the bioeconomy transformation FOR (4) the BIOEAST regionItem type:Project, Tarptautinis / International2024-01-01 - 2026-12-31. The BOOST4BIOEAST project aims to set in motion the levers for bioeconomy deployment in the Central Eastern European and Baltic countries. The consortium will focus on building upon BIOEASTsUP outcomes and the Vision Paper of the BIOEAST Initiative by boosting the participation of national stakeholder networks in the development of national bioeconomy action plans and to build longlasting structures for national and macro-regional cooperation. The BIOEAST HUBs will be the national platforms directly linked to public administrations under which capacities are built and the different stakeholders of the bioeconomy are mobilised to more effectively contribute to and take part in decision-making processes using participatory approaches. BIOEAST-wide mapping of bioeconomy competencies and biomass will be undertaken to advance the knowledge on bioeconomy in the macro-region as well as BIOEAST Knowledge Platform will be created to act as repository of knowledge materials and relevant information on bioeconomy that will allow BIOEAST´s stakeholders to access, share and store bioeconomy-related materials towards developing national BIOEAST HUBs into active contributors to bioeconomy in each member state. In order to boost bioeconomy innovation and education in the BIOEAST countries, the project will bring together public and private funders with relevant business stakeholders and expand the BIOEAST UNI NET network. Activities such as training, reskilling, awareness spreading and communication channels creation will set the basis of the bioeconomic transition, creating spaces of dialogue and involvement among all agents of the industry (academia, private and public), which will boost the stakeholders engagement for the integration of programmes and policies in turn of bioeconomy. The hereby proposed consortium is composed of stakeholders of all BIOEAST member states along with partners distributed throughout Western Europe (BE, FI, GER, IE, IT& ES).
88 Baltic Sustainable Secure Food ChainItem type:Project, Tarptautinis / International2023-08-01 - 2024-07-31. 36 Creation of the centre of excellence in smart forestry (Forest 4.0)Item type:Project, Tarptautinis / International2023-05-01 - 2029-04-30. The overall objective of the FOREST 4.0 project is to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) to transform the forest environment monitoring, data acquisition, and analysis, and capture value from the collected data by implementing innovations based on artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT). The CoE will be founded by two Lithuanian partners (Vytautas Magnus University - VMU) and Kaunas University of Technology - KTU) teaming with a leading counterpart from Sweden (Linnaeus University - LNU) and three networking and business development partners (InteriorCluster from Sweden, ART21 UAB and AgriFood Lithuania Digital Innovation Hub from Lithuania). The CoE will be created as a new legal entity and will comprise leading researchers from different domains that will implement an ambitious long term research and innovation strategy. The CoE will also provide innovation services to businesses and host a startup incubator. The impact of the project will be a rise in research excellence and reputation in forestry management and AI/IoT technologies for Lithuania; the constitution of a critical mass of excellent international researchers in the targeted domains; the production of a growing amount of research (publications) and innovation (patents, new technologies, startups) outputs; and expanding international networks for the Lithuanian partners.
