The Book of Abstracts invites you to get acquainted with the issues discussed at the 8th international scientific conference Sustainable Multilingualism 2025 (SM25), organized by the Institute of Foreign Languages at Vytautas Magnus University, Lithuania, and the Language Teachers’ Association of Lithuania, held in Kaunas, May 29-31, 2025. The primary objective of SM25 was to provide a common platform for researchers, language policy makers, language teachers, students, and anyone interested in discussing and sharing their expertise on key issues of multilingualism, plurilingual competence development, and language education.

Learning another language is becoming aware of another culture, and foreign language competence is a means not only to acquire knowledge about and skills of efficient cross-cultural communication but also a means of presenting our own culture to the world. The book presents the material (texts, communicative tasks, vocabulary development activities) for the development of intercultural skills on various cross-cultural topics: culture shock and learning to survive in a new culture, social etiquette, cross-cultural interaction, cultural similarities and differences, cultural stereotypes, ethnic jokes. The focus is on the presentation of national identity, values, cultural peculiarities in the English language.
