- research article[2009]Šapoka, KęstutisSocialinis ugdymas / Social Education, 2009, vol. 18, p. 75-86

The aim of this article is to introduce the concept of body work in professional con¬text, and to make it this way more accessible to people who are not professionally trained in specific movement disciplines. In this article the theoretical underpinnings of body work are derived from three larger areas. Science, more precisely neurosci¬ence, is researching the theme of body-mind connections, mirror neurons, origin of emotions. The main practical impact is visible in psychiatry, where new revolution in diagnostics has been done through the invention of bodily movement observation tools. The art of dance and movement has gained scientific value through Laban Movement Analyses, which offers tools for not only choreographers and dance teach¬ers in teaching movement awareness, but also for body psychotherapists.
