    Mačernytė Panomariovienė, Ingrida
    Baltic Journal of Law & Politics, 2023, vol. 16, no. 1, p. 24-41

This article examines what kind of personal data disclosure may make it difficult to get employed and what kind of excessive (unlawful) data is collected when selecting candidates in Lithuania. The analysis reveals that there have been a number of justified complaints regarding the selection of employees via recruitment platforms and the provided application forms that specifically requested an excessive amount of information, or situations in which the conditions indicated in job listings were adapted to a specific circle of people, thus eliminating other potential candidates, such as persons of pre-retirement age, young families, persons with children, persons of a particular gender and similar groups of people. The purpose of this article is to identify methods of unlawful collection of personal data, as well as the types of requested personal data, the origin of which may lead to discrimination during the recruitment process in Lithuania. The article analyses the legality of documents requested from candidates, data collected from them by filling out application forms and providing preliminary or additional information during job interviews, or information gathered from former employers or social networks.

    Veganų diskriminacija Lietuvoje: atvejo studija
[Vegan discrimination in Lithuania: case study]
    research article[2022][S4][S005]

[A conceptual model of nepotism, favoritism and protectionism triangulation]
    research article[2013][S4][S003][12]

Organizacijų vadyba: sisteminiai tyrimai / Management of Organizations: Systematic Research, 2013, no. 65, p. 137-148

Of Lithuanian and foreign scientists articles analysis, is determined that the phenomenon of nepotism is presented as protection of relatives, i.e., investment in human capital – family, relationship by marriage, not to productivity. This way does not guarantee the quality of human resources and damage workers’ interpersonal relationships, disturbing both the public and private sector organizations’ work. In a broad sense, nepotism is dysfunction of social relationship, in assessing aspects of all socium. Although nepotism is often associated with the legacy of the socialist system in Lithuania – it is a broader social phenomenon, beyond the political systems of frames, well grounded of the human nature and the cultural context. Society development is related with the negative aspects of the phenomenon harm to the public and private sector systems and understanding of the phenomenon as unacceptable, the institutionalization of the national acquis. Analysis of nepotism, favoritism and protectionism specificity showed that these phenomena are described quite differently, the common denominator is becoming protection, exceptionally creating favorable conditions for a social network of representatives: the family members, relatives, friends, financial partners. Social networks can be formal (family) and informal (similar geographic origin, ethnicity, military service, friendship, etc.). Informal network boundaries are difficult to define, and one person can belong to multiple networks, so networks can overlap and form metanetwork. Of the general denominators of nepotism, favoritism and protectionism, it is proved that these phenomena are closely related, and they can not be completely separated. Analyzed phenomena have the same core – corruption and discrimination, but differs protection objects and forms of corruption. [...]

[Transformations of the Arab image in the Lithuanian press]
    research article[2015][S4][S002][33]
    Politikos mokslų almanachas, 2015, vol. 17, p. 57-89

Arab countries around the world are distinguished by the contradictory treated faith of Islam which is vividly associated with terrorism and Arabs as being terrorists. This image is affected by September 11th events. Though a decade passed, in the media the Arab’s image is still related to terrorism. The media formulate public opinion in the society ant can create some images which are not always true. The media have a great power to represent social reality through its own eyes; news and events are colored and explained by the notion in the society. Because media often light up only negatyve terroristic events only rarely analyzing and connecting the surroundings, it have made influence on understanding the Arabs as “terrorists”. Though Arab countries themselves are tired from being presented like this, they do not want to be exploited. This is perfectly illustrated by the wave of revolutions seen in the main Arab countries, where people try to demonstrante for the world and their own governments that they are tired of being exploited, they are eager to defend their own rights and seek for democracy. The research shows that Arabs are discriminated due to their ethnical origin but mostly due to religion. So in real life, Arabs are discriminated due to islamophobia, racism, and xenophobia. When Lithuania became the member of the European Union (EU), the question of inadequacy became especially actual. Ethnic inadequacy and xenophobia phenomena are discussed in the media vividly. The specialist of the Institute for Ethnic Studies Dr. Monika Frėjūtė-Rakauskienė states (2009) that the situation was influenced by two factors: Firstly, when the borders were opened, the immigration streams increased together with the media’s attention to the groups of immigrants (Chechens, Muslims, etc.).
