To most people’s opinion, being a Christian in the 21st century means living in a secular society which is influenced by individualism. What would St. Paul say about it? In this situation, “The Church should not complain or become defensive. Instead, she should act with courage and wisdom according to the spirit of the times.” (Quoted from the speech made by the Chairman of the German Bishops’ Conference at a general meeting, autumn 2008.) How should we understand evolution – as a burden and fate or as a task that stimulates us toward new achievements? Our possible guidelines: 1. “The way of the Church is the way of man” (John Paul II at Vatican II); 2. Conditions for a dialogue in society and inside the Church: Faith and Reason (Benedict XVI).
