This paper aims to draw attention to returnees’ impact on the development of Lithuanian society after 1990 and especially on the realm of religion. The post-Soviet reality of Lithuania encouraged some migrants to return and contribute to the strengthening of the Lithuanian state and society through their work and social capital. It was particularly evident in returnees, as presenters of Catholic culture and values. For them, it was apparent that the spiritual situation in Lithuanian society is sad and requires assistance. The idea of Lithuaniaʼs spiritual renewal became a driving force for many return migrants who emphasized their Catholic identity. Strengthening the Catholic Church in Lithuania as an institution and ties between the believers, also the development of theology studies are the spheres where the influence of returnees is the most prominent. Due to Lithuaniaʼs societyʼs different social, ideological, and religious settings, the attempts of returnees to broaden the popularity of Catholic NGOs and political organizations related to Christian democracy have not been so effective.
