I he article analyses changes in the Vilnius Pedagogical University students’ mode of life during three years of studies. Students of the first course (713) were interviewed in the study year 1998/1999, and interviewing of the same students (472) in the third course was carried out once more in the study year 2000/2001. The interview showed that during three years of studies the number of students, who tried to lead healthy mode of life increased from 54,7 to 63,8 percent. The students of the third year assumed more responsibility for their health, and they were better informed about the issues of healthy mode of life. 1 he students’ nutrition became more versatile, increased consumption of fruit, vegetables, other necessary foodstuffs, but still, like in the first year, the regularity of nutrition was not proper.*The number of smokers decreased from 30,4 percent in the first year to 26,7 percent in the third year, however, the number of the intoxicated with alcohol increased from 9,5 to 14,0 percent respectively. When the physical training became optional, the number of the students who absolutely did not exercise increased from 7,2 to 30,3 percent. Although many positive changes in the life style were noticed during the years of studies, the dynamic of some indicators shows that the habits of healthy mode of life of young people have not been formed in full.

The research data shows that similar percentage of students (72.9 % as having low level PA, 75.2 % – as moderate level PA, 62.2 % – as high level PA) typically eat three or four times a day. Also, 61.3 % of them have breakfast, and 79.9 % have lunch every day. The daily recommended amount of water is drunk by 42.6 % of the respondents: 24.3 % as having low level PA, 38 % – as moderate level PA, 50.6 % – as high level PA (χ² = 19,777, p < 0.01). Also, not even a single time during the week, 56.2 % of the students ate fish, 31.7 % cheese, 30.7 % drank milk and 40.3 % yogurt. Students with high level PA more often ate rice (p < 0.01) and white cheese (p < 0.05). The findings of the present study showed that some students’ diet is not favourable to their health – they often do not respect the dietary regimen, too rarely use indispensable foods. Results revealed that students who engaged in low levels, moderate levels and high levels of physical activity had similar eating habits.
