Scientific literature have shown that in Lithuania, as in most European countries, insufficient physical activity has been recorded in all age groups. Inadequate physical activity leads to health problems such as obesity, heart disease, stress, anxiety. Therefore, it is important to conduct research to analyse the physical activity of adolescents. Research object: physical activity of adolescents; research objective: to reveal physical activity of students aged between 14 and 19 years, in terms of age, gender and family social status. Research methods and material: research sample consisted of 205 adolescents from Vytautas Magnus Gymnasium. A survey was used as a method to conduct the study data, where the adolescents had to answer 8 questions related to physical activity in their free time, at school and back home in a span of a week. After conducting the survey data, the aim was to reveal physical activity in terms of gender, age and family social status. SPSS program version 25 was used to calculate the data of the study. Research findings: it was found that boys were more physically active than girls both at school and upon returning home from school (p < 0.05). No statistically significant differences were found between groups on the other subscales. Comparing adolescents aged between 14 and 16 and 17–19 years, younger adolescents were found to be more physically active in all subscales, statistically significant differences were reported (p from 0.000 to 0.041). During the analysis of the data, it was hypothesized that the social situation of the adolescent family has influence on the physical activity of the adolescent, however, after calculating the data obtained, the hypothesis was not confirmed, considering there was no statistically significant data found (p > 0.05).[...]

Physical activity of Lithuanian students has already reached a critical level and, compared to the physical activity levels of students from other European countries, Lithuania ranks penultimate, surpassing only Slovakia, and physical activity in adolescents in Lithuania is one of the lowest among EU countries – only 10% (Ministry of Health, 2020). Such statistics of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Lithuania is supported by the data of the World Health Organization (WHO). Corona-virus (COVID-19) is a deadly, previously unknown virus officially called COVID-19. From the Chinese city of Wuhan in late December 2019, the virus spread rapidly not only in Asia but also on other continents. Research methods used in this research: analysis of scientific literature, questionnaire survey, statistical analysis of research data. The results of the study revealed that the physical activity of adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic is extremely low. The mean of the values is less than 2.13 points (on a 5-point scale). Conclusions: 1. Boys were more physically active than the girls. [...]

There is a tendency to note that parental involvement in children’s sports can be diverse. As the researchers highlight, it is important for parents to understand that they should show the young athlete as many as possible ways, to introduce to different sports so that the young athlete later could find himself/ herself, to enjoy sport and to have positive experiences. However, resent research shows that parents’ desire to see their offspring succeeding, and parents often forget what really matters in children’s sport.
