    Lithuania may be considered as the land of basketball. Basketball is a second religion to many Lithuanians. This axiom has been operative for many years. Basketball has been played in Lithuania over 90 years, even though at the start of the XX century this sport was virtually unknown. The object of this article is to shed light on the efforts of Lithuanians to play basketball in Europe after the Second World War, a time of annexation of Lithuania. Thus, this format frames the timeliness of this theme, formed the focus of research and time-line. The specific objectives of the article are as follows: to shed light of Lithuanian refugee sport in the area of basketball; to determine the level of competence and level of Lithuanian basketball players within the dynamic of refugee camps; to identify names of leaders and prime movers of those who made the greatest impact within the refugee camps; to articulate the desires and capability of Lithuania to participate in the fourth European championship in 1945; to evaluate Lithuanian competency of playing basketball within the context of European states in the camps as well as its meaning within the political sphere. The research for this time period and methods of research are drawn from first hand authentic sources. Many of the authors (V. Adamkus, A. Adomėnas, K. Čerkeliūnas and others) have memories about this time period of Lithuanian basketball, these are drawn from various periodicals, thus the goals of the author is to present and enlighten the time period in a systematic manner. Having analysed the literature and sources, it may be stated that in the largest war refugee – political émigré Lithuanian camps (displaced persons camps) of Augsburg, Kempton, Huttenfelde, Toubingen and in other locations, basketball was the leading sport which was played by Lithuanians.[...]
