The article deals with the importance of competence in studying skills in the context of European education and the strategic provisions of the implementation of the latter in Lithuania. The schoolchildren (forms 5, 8, 9 and 11) and teacher's viewpoints on studying skills/study training and adoption of the standpoints are assessed.

This article reveals the purpose of homework from the students and teacher's point of view, difficulties that students face, the level of executing home assignments according to the students and their teachers, student's requests when setting homework tasks.
