Metadiscursive questions as a parental strategy of communicating with childrenItem type:Publication, research article[2006]Balčiūnienė, IngridaInternational Journal of Area Studies / Regioninės studijos, 2006, vol. 2, p. 251-258The analysis is based on longitudinal data of a Lithuanian girl, Monika, and her parents. Their conversations were recorded by Monika’s mother (the author of this paper) in natural everyday situations: playing together, performing common tasks, and so on. Recordings started in March 2000, when Monika was one year and nine months old, and continued until she was three years and nine months. The 15-20 minute conversations were recorded two or three times per week. The total duration of recordings is 43 hours. The recordings were transcribed and partially coded according to the requirements of CHILDES (Child Language Data Exchange System, MacWhinney 1991).
