The aim of this study is to examine the links between subjectively perceived stressful working conditions, quality of sleep and fatigue among seafarers. The study surveyed 160 male seafarers, aged 18 - 68 (M=39.9, SD=13.41), in organizations working with seafarers in the Klaipeda city. Correlational design was used in the analysis. Participants filled out The Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory, (MFI-20, Smets, Garssen, Bonke, & De Haes, 1995), Oldernburg, Jenzen, Latza & Baur’s, 2009 questionnaire and Sleep Quality Scale (SQS), (Yi, H, Shin, K., & Shin, C. (2006) as well as Lifestyle and Environmental Conditions Factor Analysis Questionnaire (Rapolienė, 2017). The results revealed that higher perceived stressful work conditions and more stressors were related to more fatigue and lower sleep quality among seafarers. There was no statistically significant difference in fatigue nor sleep quality among seafarers working in cargo ships and those working in passenger ships. Seafarers working on the deck and in the engine room reported better sleep quality and lower levels of fatigue than those who worked in the steering room, on captains bridge and in the passenger service area. Recommendations for improving seafarers’ working conditions, dealing with work related stressors, improving sleep quality and preventing long-term fatigue are discussed.
