Socialinių tinklų panaudojimo ypatumai studijuojant aukštojoje mokykloje
Mackevičiūtė, Roberta |
Naujoji Z karta neįsivaizduoja savo gyvenimo be interneto ir socialinių tinklų.
New Z generation cannot imagine their life without the internet and social media. Its usage has a huge impact on how students perceive their learning process as well as how they receive and process information. However, some scientists agree to social media integration into the learning process and see many advantages of this process, like increased active student participation and involvement into the learning material during the lectures, but there are also some scientists who disagree and indicate that social media could have negative impact on students’ concentration which might also possibly lead to hyperactivity. This reveals this research problem and relevance as most of the students use social media but it is not clear what impact it has on their learning process. Higher education institutions also avoid using social media during lectures, even though application of innovative teaching methods is one of the main priorities in order to stay competitive in Lithuania as well as worldwide. Features of Z generation learning habits are also changing, therefore educational institutions must evaluate these changes and improve their teaching methods and aims accordingly. The purpose of this research is to reveal how Z generation studies and how they evaluate social media usage in their learning process. Research questions:
- What are Z generation higher education students’ learning features?
- What for do higher education students use social media?
- What impact do social media have on higher education students’ learning process? Research object: social media usability when studying in a higher education institution. Aim: theoretically and empirically reveal how students use social media when studying in higher education institutions. The research revealed that college students evaluate social media more favorably that university students. Nevertheless, it is conjointly recognized that social media decreases concentration, does not help to memorize studied information better and even though acknowledged as the main information source for the society, it is doubted that social media should be implemented into the learning process. According to all research data and results it might be indicated that social media integration into the learning process would not be received with big interest among students and therefore it is doubtful that it would improve learning results.
