The article seeks to reveal that all four autobiographies of Jonas Šliūpas are one and the same story about oneself. Although the beginnings and the endings of the autobiographies changed from the point of view of chronology, the pillars organizing the stories, i.e. the core of human identity (Lithuanity, free-thinking, and commitment to Lithuanian culture), have remained the same. Jonas Šliūpas inherited the Lithuanian identity from his family. Free-thinking was acquired under the influence of cultural process. The status of a free-thinker conformed to socialist ideas, the belief in science and progress at various stages of his life. The following ideas are reflected in the articles by Jonas Šliūpas, which have already become an integral part of his autobiographies.
