Processes of unemployed job search and employment are affected by interrelated factors. One of them is the psychological characteristics of the unemployed person. There are evidences that the personal characteristics of unemployed person are related to job search skills and the process of employment, consequently, persons with certain personal features can find the job faster. Based on this we assume that personal characteristics positively related to job search and employment success will be less characteristic for long-term unemployed in comparison with short-term unemployed. Personal characteristics of unemployed in this article are compared in three groups of different unemployment duration. The aim of presented research is to compare the peculiarities of specific personal features of unemployed belonging to the groups of different unemployment duration. The empirical studies investigating correlations between personal characteristics and employment possibilities of persons who search for job are presented in this article. 130 unemployed of different age, background, family status, with average 32.59 months of unemployment duration participated in this research. In order to determine personal characteristics Big Five Inventory (BFI; John, Donahue & Kentle, 1991; Benet-Martinez & John, 1998; John, Naumann & Soto, 2008) methodology was used. Statistical data analysis methods used in research did not show honesty and neurotism expression differences between short-term and long-term unemployed. However, expression of neurotism increased in short-term unemployed registered in labour exchange along with increased duration of unemployment. Among 30-50 aged unemployed, the better expressed openness to experience is more characteristic to short-term unemployed in comparison with long-term unemployed
