A musical, as a form of popular theatre entertainment appeared in the United States at the beginning of the XXth century. It was taking it’s shape for more than fifty years, bringing together elements of variaus scenic genres, untill it became what it is now – a unique form of scenic art. A musical is a rezult of combining the means of expression of a drama theatre and that of the musical play, it performs a sentimental and melodramatic contens, melodious tunes, gorgeous stagings. The most famous musicals (“The Man From La Mancha”, “Hair”, “My Fairy Lady”, etc.) were based on the solid pieces of literature. Comparatively new genre in the context of the Western culture, the musical counts only 35 years in Lithuania. One couldn’t find the continuous growth of the musical in Lithuania. An American musical reflects the American pop culture and roots in the specific traditions of national theatre. Although it could not be adequately addopted in Lithuanian theatre, our own national traditions add originality and popularity to this unique genre. The growth of the musical genre in Lithuania was limited by the repertory theatre system. Although there were a few cases of the exchange between the directors, choreographers and scenographers from other countries, none of the exchange took place among the actors. One can notice a certain break point in the history of the Lithuanian musical in the ninties: there were more performances, more critical reflection.[...]en
