The article analyses the background and conditions for the emergence of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Lithuania in 1925. It describes the procedure, by which it was established, principles of membership, and legal regulations during the period of the First Republic of Lithuania (1918–1940). The article discusses the most significant problems and advantages of the Chamber. It also analyses how the Chamber changed in 1936 (when it became the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts). In addition, it considers who the leaders were and how the organization was able to build a new building to house the Chamber. The article is based on archival documents, published references, articles in the press, and various statistical directories. Archival sources include official documents, draft laws, inter-institutional correspondence, miscellaneous correspondence stored in the Central National Archive, the Kaunas Regional Archive, and others.
